- The priestess Dziasha has a dream, determined by other priests to be sent by the Brightness, that the gods will "smite the earth" (Over The Peerless Sea).
- Three months after Dziasha's dream, the last of the ships leaving Nokoril-het, on an expedition across the sea, sets sail. (Over The Peerless Sea). The Jokka from Nokoril-het who are aboard the ships will effectively become the first of the northern Jokka (A Bloom in the North)
- At some point after the events of Over A Peerless Sea, a meteor hits (A Bloom in the North)
- Kediil is born anadi (Freedom, Spiced and Drunk)
- At some point during Kediil's life, she (now it) Turns eperu (Freedom, Spiced and Drunk)
- At the beginning of the year following Kediil becoming eperu, the lore-knower Mardin begins to teach Kediil to become a lore-knower itself (Freedom, Spiced and Drunk)

- Eightclaws are now believed to have gone extinct, although some Jokka say there are still eightclaws on the plains (Pearl in the Void)
- At some point, Pathen has become the Stone Moon Empire's overseer of five Houses: Laisira, Rapuñal, Makuf, Ledezail and Kaduye. (Stone Moon, Silk Scarves). There is no mention on whether he was assigned all five at once or if these were assigned to him over time.

Introductions
A wip chronological list of the first appearances, introductions and uses of things in canon, as chronicled by ke Flofx, who will need a proper name and portrait at this rate (first "wiki editor" portrait for this wiki!).
"Over The Peerless Sea"
- Ñedsu and rikka are mentioned for the first time and it's made clear they are already pets at this point in time.
- Ashulinet-het, Nokoril-het, Dlomos-het, Poish-het and Ushof-het are mentioned in canon for the first and only time.
- Two gods are named for the first time in chronological canon: The Brightness (anadi), and the Night (emodo), the latter which is named for the first and only time. The two named gods are known as the Cycle, are said to be in the sky and move the sun and stars between them. The name 'the Void' is never used and the World is not referred to yet.
- The anadi's ability to poison someone through their fangs is introduced.
- The name/title of a specific eperu ruler is mentioned for the first and only time in canon: the Imperator.
- The temple of the cycle is introduced for the first and only time.
- The fact that a Jokkad's birth sex and whether they have Turned affects their body and physical appearance is introduced. The word 'birth sex' is not actually used in the short story.
"Freedom, Spiced and Drunk"
- Lore-knowers are introduced for the first time in Freedom, Spiced And Drunk and are strictly eperu.
- The concept and title of the first among eperu is introduced and the first among eperu we meet still holds its original job and performs its original tasks after it has been chosen. That same eperu also considers the emodo and anadi of Kediil's family (the clan it works for) its responsibility.
- The sky flame (our aurora borealis) is introduced as an annual occurence in the sky, the appearance of which signals both the end of winter and the end of a year by Jokka timekeeping.
- The mind-death is introduced for the first time.
- The fact that there are plants that keep anadi and emodo from experiencing the mind-death is introduced. The waxflower and waxflower tea appear for the first and only time as a herb which sterilizes anadi and emodo but lets them keep their minds after drinking waxflower tea just once.
- A new god is named for the first time: Nature (eperu). It has ordained that no anadi can escape the mind-death and will be claimed in the end. Nature is the one who takes minds: it is believed that a Jokkad can fend It off, but Nature will eventually claim its mind. Nature takes either some of a mind or all of it at once and it is harder for It to take an emodo's mind than an anadi's; It has been assumed to crow when It took an emodo's mind. However, It will sometimes catch an anadi's mind right after she gives birth and lose its grip again. Nature is also the one who chooses if a Jokka Turns and to what sex.
- The belief that the gods make a Jokkad by weaving it and that the god Nature paints on its colours is brought up for the first and only time.
- Eigthclaws are introduced for the first time
- Kediil's unnamed clan is introduced for the first and so far only time
- The belief that an anadi's spirit resides in her womb and an eperu's resides in its heart is introduced for the first time. The location of an emodo's spirit is not yet mentioned.
- The leader of a Clan is called the head of the Clan and 'head' is not yet capitalized. Clan is only capitalized once and in the above context.
- The neuter's greeting of touching its breastbone (or chest) and the anadi's greeting of touching her womb are introduced for the first time. The emodo's greeting is not yet mentioned.
- The information that a Jokka has scales, their claws are retractable and that they blush white is introduced for the first time.
- The skin colour sukul is described as moonlight on shell for the first time, rather than moonlight on pearl as in the Mystery Age.
- The fact that eperu have sex with each other and can have orgasms is mentioned for the first time.
- First and only mention of the belief that a Jokkad can keep all of their memories if they speak/whisper them into a conch shell and that they will leak out if there are any other holes in the shell than its opening. Memories that leak out will be lost forever when "pregnancy takes your mind."
- First and only mention that a year by Jokka timekeeping is also called a cycle of the seasons.
- The word 'ke' is used for the first time and is translated as 'honored'. The word 'riiket', translated as 'father', is used for the first and only time.
- The belief that the intelligence of an anadi, who has lost all of her mind during childbirth, will have "fled to" her newborn child instead is introduced.
- That anadi belong to their family is mentioned for the first and only time.
- The concept and the words 'mate-price' and 'mate-prices' are introduced and used for the first and only time in canon.
- The fact that anadi can become dizzy after sex and that some of them faint is introduced..

By the events of Pearl in the Void, an anadi who keeps her mind through five or six pregnancies has become something the Jokka only read about in older stories.
- That some Jokka stay the same sex all of their lives is introduced. The word kudelith is not used yet.
- The word 'birth sex' is used for the first time.
- The fact that a Jokkad's birth sex and how -long- they have been any sex affects their body and physical appearance is introduced.
"New Stories"
- First use of the words Trinity and Trifold for the gods.
- Incense itself and the practise of burning it for religious purposes is introduced. The practise of one Jokkad burning incense for another is mentioned for the first and only time.
- The word 'ba' is used for the first time in canon and is not yet translated.
- At this point in time, it is considered impolite to ask about a stranger's birth sex.
- 'family Nudet', which will become the future Clan Nudet, is introduced for the first time. Unlike in 'Freedom, Spiced and Drunk', the words 'clan' and 'clans' are not used in this short story.
- The word 'tribes' is used for the first and only time in canon.
- Kediil, who has drunk waxflower tea, can wear clothing without getting too hot.
- The fact that Jokka are more likely to Turn during their first puberty than the second is introduced.
- The concept of casting out a Jokkad for having done something wrong is introduced. This is not yet referred to as Breaking someone's contract, Breaking someone from a House (yes, I know) or that a Jokkad has a Broken contract.
- The first two houses built since the Mystery Age are made from bricks of sun-baked clay
- The belief that the gods can curse someone is mentioned for the first and only time
- That some tribes have chosen to settle, prior to family Nudet's permanent settlement, because they had members that were infirm or wanted to stay close to someone they had buried is mentioned for the first and only time
- The belief that the gods can become angry and can take action in order to correct behaviours and actions they disapprove of is introduced for the first time (possibly also the last, let this editor double-check). The gods are not thought to be cruel and their corrections, no matter what shape they take, are not meant to be mistaken for acts of cruelty.
- The belief that the gods can send a dry season is mentioned for the first and only time
- The belief that the gods can kill Jokka is introduced for the first time
- The belief that the Jokka roam because they have always roamed is introduced
- First mention that the beginning of dusk is one of the hardest times for Jokka to see
- Packets are used for the first time in canon. In the short story, these are used by Kediil to transport what might be fresh or dried plants and/or herbs? The contents of the packets have a medicinal purpose and need to be ground, in any case. It is only later in canon that packets of dried herbs will make an appearance.
- The fact that a Jokkad's mind will "burn up and die" if their body becomes too hot and that the anadi and emodo are the first sexes to succumb to it is introduced
- The words 'draught', 'draughts', 'poultice', 'paste' (used medicinally) and their concepts are used for the first time.
- We have the first and only mention that the Jokka have a liquid they drink when they're "feverish". It smells "High, thin and bitter". Serel identifies it as smelling of heat-calming medicine. There is no information on what it tastes like.
- Jokka foraging for vegetables is mentioned for the first and only time
- Curtains made of woven grass are used for the first and only time
- An unnamed type of disease is introduced for the first and only time. Among the symptoms are fever, difficulty breathing, an elevated pulse, a sharp tang on one's breath and lumps of pus in the body, which can be felt and will harden as the disease advances. If the disease is not too advanced just yet, the treatment is an unknown diet and an equally unknown number of unspecified draughts. Otherwise the treatment includes slicing open some of the lumps with a knife covered in an unspecified paste, covering the wounds with a bandage painted in an unspecified poultice and drinking an unknown number of unspecified draughts.
"A Trifold Spiral Knot"
- The first temple built to the gods is introduced and located in het Dardenil
- We get the first and so far only appearance of the first Jokka who was elithik.
- Het Dardenil is mentioned in canon for the first and only time
- Two gods are named for the first time in canon: the World and the Void. The Jokka's pantheon now consists of the Brightness, the World and the Void for the first time, rather than the Brightness, Nature and the Void.
- The Void gains its first epitaphs in canon: Snuffer of Stars, Bringer of Silence and the Calm of Nothingness
- Madness is introduced as an alternative outcome to what ordinarily causes the mind-death and is said to stalk the Jokka for the first and only time. Madness is referred to with a capital letter just once in the short story
- The causes of madness are listed as being exertion, pregnancy, over-excitement, age and extremes of temperature for the first and only time. There is never any mention in canon that age can be a cause of the mind-death. The difference in severity between the causes of madness is explained as if (capital letter) Madness had a Jokkad's foot: temperatures are the smallest foot claw and pregnancy is the killing thumb claw. The other causes are not assigned a claw for this explanation.
- The belief that the Void can Turn his chosen Jokkad and choose what sex they become is mentioned for the first and only time.
- The word elithik is used for the first time in canon and is the word for having been all three sexes
- At this point in canon, there is no word for twins
- The belief that the Jokka's first names for colours evolved to describe the sky is introduced for the first time
- That eperu are the ones who raise Jokka children is introduced for the first time
- Special rooms located underground for anadi are mentioned for the first time. The word 'anadi cavern' is not yet in use.
- That most of the hours of the day are named for the colour of the sky during that hour is introduced. Truedark is introduced for the first time as a concept, the name of an hour and a colour.
- The Jokka's ability to smell another's emotions is first introduced: Mayiin picks up on a temple anadi's sorrow both by the droop of her head and her scent.
- The Void appears as a character for the first time and his "physical" appearance is described
- At this point in canon, most of the larger permanent settlements are near Serel's original settlement in the south.
- First and only mention that clans have a patriarch who is both the disciplinarian and makes all decisions for the clan members
- The fact that Jokka have white blood is introduced for the first time
- First and only mention that, prior to the permanent settlements, there were travelling clans consisting mostly of Jokka who were dedicated to the service of the gods
- Some of the names for the hours and groups of hours are mentioned for the first and only time. Akiiñel is the hour "between white and copper, when the light is most white while still holding elements of the descending sun". Kushuleñe, the hours with fangs, is the word encompassing five specific hours: the two hours before midday, the hour of midday and the two hours after midday.
- The fact that the Void can change a Jokkad's colouration is introduced for the first time.
- The first Jokka who was elithik gives a Jokkad a mark for the first and only time
- Wells are introduced for the first time and a town having a communal beast-keep is mentioned for the first and only time.
- Thatching is mentioned for the first and only time. In this short story, the thatching is made from sun-burnt grass.
- Mud bricks are used to make buildings for the first and only time
- The colour of the sky neide is used for the first and only time
- First and only mention that clans will trade Jokka of similar ages when they meet another group "with like individuals" in order to bring new blood into the clans.
- An unmarked blood white anadi and an unmarked truedark black emodo are both considered to be the right colours and sexes to serve the Brightness and Void respectively. There is no mention of what the right colour for an eperu would be.
"Money For Sorrow, Made Joy"
- Shell is explicitly used as currency for the first time
- We see the first case of appending your birthsex to a House name once you've joined it
- The word kaña and the idea of her wearing a navel ring appears for the first time.
- The idea of eperu wearing a single earring is introduced. In Ledin's caravan, any eperu past their second puberty can earn an earring.
- Het Ikoped is mentioned for the first time (and misspelled once as Ikopen) and so is Het Makali.
- House Pazaña is mentioned for the first and only time in canon and is located in het Makali.
- The fact that anadi can poison someone through their fangs is now thought to be a truedark tale.
- The fact that Jokka weep through their fangs and that those tears are acrid is introduced for the first time.
- 'House' is now capitalized for the first time in canon and are run by emodo.
- The practise of putting down a stone to found a House is introduced
- Caravans are introduced for the first time, usually have specific trade routes and only travel for the purpose of trading. The leader of a caravan is called the caravan master and caravans have a lead wagon.
- 'Sa' is used for the first (and only?) time and is not translated. It may be a typo for 'ba'.
- A general store appears for the first and only time in canon. It is located in het Ikoped.
- Couriers are introduced for the first time. A courier is seen to carry a token, which the recipients of a letter (refer to the note about word use) are asked to mark upon the letter's delivery for the first time. It is not specified whether a courier has a single token of their own or if there is a token for each letter they are to deliver.
- Contracts are introduced for the first time. At the moment, there are only references to selling the contracts of anadi.
- Wagons are introduced for the first time in canon. Usually they're built with sails on their frames, but we see one wagon that has a perch built above its frame and has less sails because of it.
- Businesses that build wagons are mentioned for the first and only time in canon. There is a wagon size called a "standard trade size" and few businesses build wagons in that size.
- Eperu are now believed to be the only sex sturdy enough to withstand the "grueling" travel of a trade caravan for the first time: emodo and anadi are thought to be too fragile to travel and even half a year of travelling is believed to be too harsh on anadi. Ekanoi, the narrator, tells an anadi that going on an expedition by caravan to the now-believed-to-be-unexplored northern region would kill her. There is no mention of what would happen to any emodo who went on that expedition.
- Two caravans are introduced for the first and only time: one led by Ledin and one led by Batasil.
- That Jokka shrug by flicking their tails is introduced for the first time.
- A package delivered by a courier is referred to as a letter for the first (and only? let this editor double-check) time.
- Jokka have a map of the known continent for the first time and that map is said to show how little they know of their land. There is no mention of what parts of the continent the map does or does not cover, but from the short story we learn that the map definitely does not cover the northwestern region.
- At this point in time, the Jokka no longer know, nor have they heard, if other Jokka have once explored the northwestern region or even the entire continent. At the beginning of the short story they have no information on what lies in the northwestern region at all.
- The wayfarer's house in het Ikoped appears for the first and only time in canon.
- Paper being precious is mentioned for the first time.
- The word and concept of doze-dreaming is introduced for the first time.
- Lanterns appear for the first time in canon and are raised on stakes outdoors for the first and only time.
- The belief that the Trinity made the eperu so that they don't need "true sleep" is introduced for the first and only time.
- Jokka use transaction tokens to record the purchase of goods for the first and only time. There is no mention of whether they are also used to record the sale of Jokka. There is no description of the tokens, but there is space enough for both the seller and buyer to leave their mark on them.
- For the first and only time it is widely believed that Jokka do not travel, to the point that this belief is quoted more than once.
- The lives of anadi become closer to what we see in the majority of canon going forward. They now rarely go out and are described as being pampered, fed choice foods and rest on pillows by cool pools of water.
"Anadi Dolls"
- The word 'rikka' is defined as a word used for any beast of burden and which encompasses more than one type of creature in Anadi Dolls. None of these creatures are named.
- Dolls appear in canon for the first time. The only kind of dolls ever referred to are those of anadi.
- 'Anadi caverns' and 'anadi pools' are both used for the first time
- The fact that tears of rage are peppery, rather than acrid, is introduced. The tears of anadi are yellow and have a high sweet note, whereas eperu tears are clear and there is no mention of their taste or scent. The colour, taste and scent of the tears of emodo are not mentioned yet.
- This is the first and only time an anadi throws up her reproductive organs as part of the process of Turning eperu
- The belief that no Jokka keeps their mind if they are bred before their final change (Turning) appears for the first and only time.
- There are now eperu who take care of anadi, although it is not a fulltime job. They are called caretakers and keepers by the narrator Jekun. The word jarana is not in use yet.
- Houses now own caravans and may run them on their own
- That very late third Turnings have happened in stories is mentioned for the first and only time
- House Kedret, House Sadlan and House Kishanil are mentioned for the first and only time
- Het Nekelmi and het Noidla are mentioned for the first time
- The belief that eperu do not experience sexual pleasure is introduced.
- The fact that an anadi usually does not own anything of her own and that all anadi share the things their House provides is introduced. The only exception is anadi dolls, which are love-gifts that are given to a specific anadi.

- The word and concept of healer is used for the first time in canon. The healer employed by a House is called the House healer for the first and only time. There is no reference to a town having a healer of its own just yet.
- The duty of watching over, teaching and herding Jokka children outside is called shepherding and a group of Jokka children is called a herd for the first and only time.
- Herb gardens are introduced for the first time
- Eperu now have contracts, which can be sold by the House employing them or put up for bid for the first time in canon. There is no reference to emodo having contracts just yet.
- The fact that Jokka are often sick when they go through a late Turning is introduced
- That there are Houses which specialize in breeding anadi is introduced
- Two signs of a House's wealth are introduced for the first time: the ability to afford watering flowers and the ability to afford having a House's buildings painted with designs on both the inside and outside
- For the first and only time, a House has a list of work for its eperu to get done. This list is called a duty list and eperu choose between tasks daily. There is no mention of whether the duty list always stays the same or if it is revised at any point in time.
- For the first (and only? let this editor double-check) time, Jokka born from a breeding contract are quickly "whisked away" from the mother upon birth and are sent directly to the House which bought the contract.
- Anadi spend most of their lives in anadi caverns and do not go outside for the first and only time in canon. There is no mention of where in the caverns anadi children are kept or how old they must be to join the adults, only that the narrator, Jekun, had never seen anything but newborn Jokka as an anadi.
- Breeding contracts between Houses are introduced for the first time and are only called contracts at this point.
"Unspeakable"
- First introduction of clay-keepers in canon. We see that at least one clay-keeper is an employee of a House, like other Jokka. There is no reference to a town having a single clay-keeper who works at the town's own archive just yet.
- The word mind-wound is used in canon for the first time
- House Molan is mentioned for the first time.
- The game jenadha is introduced for the first time
- Het Kabbanil is mentioned for the first time
"Unknowable"
- House Imeted is introduced for the first and only time.

"The Smell of Intelligence"
- First introduction of the concept of chenji in canon, not counting the entry on chenji in the abbreviated glossary.
- First reference to there now being temples to -both- the Trinity and the Trifold.
The Worth of a Shell
- Het Oihap and het Bakka are mentioned for the first time.

"Fire in the Void"
